Maya 'Hallucinating' Stucco Deity Head 600 CE - 900 CE
Pre-Columbian, South Mexico, Maya Territories probably classic period 600 CE - 900 CE. The Maya deity Chaac with remnants of red pigment over a stucco body. Chaac also spelled Chac or Chaak played a crucial role in sustaining life by providing rain for crops and ensuring fertility of the land. He was believed to dwell in the celestial realm and control the rains through his actions. The Maya people revered Chaac and performed rituals and ceremonies to honor him and request his blessings for bountiful harvests. Size 9" H (on included custom stand)
