French Brass Cuirass Backplate Armory of Chatellerault, circa 1800-1850s - West Europe, France, early 19th century. Very nice and early brass or brass sheathing, copper, and steel constructed backplate from the French campaigns and with remnants of one strap remaining with it's chain link. The Armour is stamped to the exterior left side (#532) to the interior lower left side clearly marked (Manufre. Role Châtellerault) to the other side the date appears to be marked (1811) although illegible. Size 17” H x 16” W Probably for a Carabinier, arms of the French where often stamped or marked for this arsenal, size, and date of manufacture. This early example is in untouched original condition
