Kudi Bares Axe, Madurese Circa 1800s
Indonesia, Java, Probably Madurese Peoples circa 1800s. Kudi or early axe/hatchet implement weapons saw use from the 14th century through 1900 when their use became mostly ceremonial and believed to ward off wild beasts. The thick central bulbous edge would be used as a traditional hatchet and the longer blade like top would be used for harvesting.

Kudi or Kodhiq or Kudi Tranchang formed with a single heavy steel head with bulbous protruding central hatched blade and slightly curved top blade, blade is also marked with a large star shaped incision to one side, and socketed at the base to a lightly turned wood handle with simple incisions in bands, lower section of the handle features an unpolished steel cap to it's base. Size 19 3/4" L, blade 7 3/4" L
