Etched German Horseman's Axe, 16th-17th c. style - Europe, German 16th-17th century style with steel construction carved lower pommel, velvet grip, etched all over with decoration of scrolling and mythological imagery to the face of the axe. Axe head with a single edged blade and decorated with humanoid mythological figures around a circular etched phoenix and the reverse with pavise in front of an animal figure. The rear of the axe with a four sided spike, the finial pierced for a leather band to secure the axe when in use. Size overall 21 1/2” L, axe head 3 1/2” L Condition: Overall nice condition.
