CAPODIMONTE, PORCELAIN FIGURE OF LOVERS - This lot features a porcelain sculpture figure of lovers, manufactured by Capodimonte with maker mark underneath as shown in photos. This sculpture measures, 9.5'' H x 8'' W x 6'' D. Capodimonte porcelain originated in Naples, Italy, in the mid-18th century. King Charles VII, inspired by his wife's Meissen porcelain, established the Royal Manufactory of Porcelain on a hilltop near his palace, which became known as Capodimonte, meaning ”top of the mountain”. The factory operated from 1743 to 1759 before moving to Spain with Charles, who became King Charles III. His son, Ferdinand, later reopened the factory in Italy in 1771, and it continued production until 1821.
