Bidspirit auction | JAPANESE NETSUKE ROOSTERS & CHICKENS

JAPANESE NETSUKE ROOSTERS & CHICKENS - This lot features a collection of Japanese Netsuke figures including two roosters and three chickens. One of the roosters has a small piece broken off with a clean break that can be repaired if desired. Three of the pieces are signed underneath as shown in photos. A netsuke is a small, often intricately carved toggle, typically made of wood or ivory, used to fasten a small container (like an inro, a medicine box, or a tobacco pouch) to the sash of a kimono. Historically, they were a functional part of a man's traditional Japanese attire, serving as a way to keep small items suspended from the obi (kimono sash). Netsuke are now highly prized and collected as miniature sculptures.
