INDIAN HEAD PENNIES, WHEAT PENNIES, & BUFFALO NICKELS - This lot features a large assortment of Indian Head Pennies, Wheat Pennies, & Buffalo Nickels from various years. Many of the coins are in protective slips. There is also an industrial cut half-penny as shown in photos. The Indian Head cent, also known as the Indian Head penny, was a one-cent coin produced by the U.S. Mint from 1859 to 1909. The Lincoln Wheat Penny, also known as the Lincoln Wheat Cent, is a one-cent coin that was minted by the United States Mint from 1909 to 1958. It was designed by Victor David Brenner and features a bust of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse and two stalks of wheat on the reverse, hence the name ”wheat penny”. The Buffalo nickel, also known as the Indian Head nickel, was a U.S. coin issued from 1913 to 1938. Designed by James Earle Fraser, it featured a Native American head on one side and a buffalo on the other. The Buffalo nickel was introduced to replace the Liberty Head nickel and was a part of a broader effort to improve the aesthetic appeal of U.S. coinage.
