KATHERINE VAN HORNE FOR ROOKWOOD, VASE - A beautiful Rookwood vase with a vellum glaze by artist, Katherine Van Horne with clear maker marks underneath as shown in photos. This vase measures, 5'' H x 5'' W x 5'' D. Katherine Van Horne was an orphan from Newport, Kentucky. She decorated at Rookwood Pottery from 1907 until 1918. Her work can be found on matte, vellum, and porcelain glazes. In 1912 she married fellow artist Cecil Duell. At that time she added the letter ”D” to her monogram. She died in the year 1918. The letter “V” was impressed in the base to denote vellum glaze, a transparent mat glaze introduced in 1904 which enjoys enduring popularity. The Rookwood Pottery Company is located in a 88,000 square foot production facility in the bustling Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. This company was first founded in 1880 by pioneering artist Maria Longworth-Nichols. She quickly built the company into a world-renowned ceramics studio, attracting the attention of famed artists and ceramicists all over the world.
