WEST PAPAUN SCULPTURE - This lot features a tall carved sculpture from West Papau, sitting on a wood plinth. This sculpture was purchased from the estate of Michael Jackson, (not THE Michael Jackson) who worked for Nike in Oregon and played for the Sacramento Kings in the NBA. This sculpture measures 38'' H x 7'' W x 4'' D. Brilliant works of West Papaun art are found in global museum collections around the world. West Papua was originally populated by Melanesian people some tens of thousands of years ago. After little contact with the Western world, it was finally formally colonized by the Netherlands in 1898.
