Oscar Quezada Casas Grandes Pottery - Black-on-black geometric design, 6” tall, 9” wide. Signed: Oscar G. Quezada Artist info: Oscar Gonzales Quezada is the second son of Consolacion Quezada and Consolacion's first husband. He started making pottery in the late 1970s, shortly after his mother did. He worked some with his uncles, Reynaldo and Nicolas, and assisted his mother in making and decorating her pottery, too. He often worked in the local orchards and made pots only part time. After he married Concha Camacho, they moved around looking for conventional jobs that might work for them. Eventually, they returned to making pottery in Mata Ortiz. Oscar likes to paint Paquimé Revival animal, fish, bird and geometric designs using matte black paint on glossy black jars, although he does make polychrome pieces, too. The family moved to Nuevo Casas Grandes in the late 80s so their sons, Oscar Javier Gonzales and Octavio Gonzales could get a better education.
