Cat and Mouse - Cast Iron Mechanical Bank - Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Connecticut - Circa 1890's. This dynamic bank seems to derive its inspiration from the English folk rhyme ”Hickory Dickory Dock”. Undeniably, the bank's elegant form is contrived as a Victorian mantle clock on pedestal feet. At the very top of the clock, we encounter a small gray mouse. I dare say he has run up the clock, as stated in the nursery tale. We also find a cat's face on the clock face, where the numerals ought to be. As soon as the bank is operated, we will witness some real ”Tom & Jerry” mischief. Place a penny on the platform directly in front of the mouse and press the lever. This causes an entirely new scene to pop up from inside the bank. The cat has sprung into a handstand and is seen playfully spinning the mouse on a striped ball. Condition: Pristine Plus Condition.
