Punch and Judy Bank - Version with Large Letters. Made by Shepard Hardware. Buffalo, New York - Circa 1890. The Punch and Judy bank was a staple of Shepard's Excelsior Line of mechanical toy banks. As a group, they constitute some of the most richly and lavishly hued toy banks ever created. As you can see, the curtain has already gone up on the puppet show. Punch and Judy appear to be having one of their frequent disagreements. Curiously, Shepard produced this bank with three different letter sizes appearing in the marquee; small, medium and large.
