Rare Miss Columbia Bell Toy - Made by J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Ct. - 1880's - ” Long. Miss Columbia is a female personification of the United States and the values of the people who live there. This symbolism originated before the Revolutionary War. In the toy, she is depicted wearing Roman-styled robes colored red, white & blue. On her head, she wears a Phrygian Cap. The bell is surmounted by a spread-winged eagle, a second iconic emblem of America. This is one of the rarest and most historically significant bell toys in the hobby. There are a mere handful of known examples and this is a genuine beauty. Condition: Pristine Plus Condition.
