Bidspirit auction | ”Groceries & Provisions” Dray Wagon

”Groceries & Provisions” Dray Wagon - Made by the James Fallows Company. Philadelphia, Pa. - Mid 1880's. From the Collection of Gary Smith (1991). This commercial dray is one of the most impressive early tin toys we have ever had the privilege to sell at auction. The toy is pulled by a pair of brown workhorses toting red saddles with gold traces. The vertical ”Groceries & Provisions” sides are liftable tin flaps, a deluxe feature that is only rarely seen in tin toys. The scale is truly colossal and its condition is almost without equal. In particular, consider the extraordinary quality of the gold stain work. Also, look at the cast iron wheels, which still retain their japanned finish and painted gold spokes. Basically, there is almost no play wear to the toy's painted and stenciled surface. Condition: Near Mint Condition.
