Mechanical Whistling Locomotive - Made by Ives, Blakeslee & Company. Bridgeport, Ct. - May 1876. From the collection of Rich Garthoeffner. For their iconic ”Whistler” locomotive, the designers at Ives, Blakeslee pulled out all the stops, sparing no expense. The end result is a mechanical toy trackless train that has no equal in this scale. Ives used two pairs of sensitively cast iron wheels painted bright red. Additionally, the locomotive chassis includes a steam valve, ringing bell, track light and stained engine straps. This example is sensational quality and retains the original cardboard box.
