Oversized Cutter Sleigh - Cast Iron Toy - Made by Ives, Blakeslee & Company. Bridgeport, Ct. - Ca. 1890 - 21” Long. Ives' gorgeous cutter sleigh is arguably one of the most impressive cast iron toys ever produced. Of their oversized trio, it is certainly the most significant. Indeed, horse drawn collectors often consider Ives' cutter sleigh as one of the truest holy grails in the hobby. Typically, cast iron horse drawn toys are imbued with a folksy out-of-scale charm, but in this instance, these carriages are flawlessly scaled to perfection. Again, we find the tall graceful steed with articulating walking legs. When the carriage is played with, the horse must be tethered to the sleigh's shafts with leather straps. This is the only example of the cutter sleigh that we are aware of that is painted with yellow sled runners and shafts. All things considered, this is an absolutely amazing cast iron toy. Condition: Near Mint Condition. One yellow spoke restored. Three tiny hairline cracks in spokes.
