Eight Man Rowing Scull Variant with Naval Rowers - Cast Iron Toy - Made by the U. S. Hardware Company. New Haven, Connecticut - Mid 1890's. During the mid 1890's, a small firm by the name U. S. Hardware produced some of the most attractive and compelling cast iron toys of the period. Their products were highly colorful and they often involved complex articulating mechanisms to animate them. Perhaps most noteworthy from their inventory are the articulated rowing scull toys. U. S. Hardware made them in three sizes (9”, 14” and 19 1/2”) and offered them with either Naval rowers from Annapolis or collegiate rowers from the Ivy League schools. These pieces represent prized condition examples of the midsized 14” sculls. Condition: Pristine Condition.
