Bidspirit auction | Mechanical Punch Velocipede Rider

Mechanical Punch Velocipede Rider - Made by the Ives, Blakeslee Company. Bridgeport, Connecticut - Circa 1880. Stevens & Brown, Ives' main competitor in the clockwork toy industry, produced a mechanical tricycle where the rider appears to peddle the vehicle powered by the front wheel. Ives version of the tricycle is far more complex and interesting. They portray a rider that propels himself forward by using sticks that appear to run off the axle of the rear wheels. When this type of tricycle toy runs on the floor, it has a very satisfying and appealing movement. At this time, there are only two known surviving specimens of the Punch Velocipede toy and this one is wonderful condition. Condition: Pristine Condition. Works well.
