Bidspirit auction | ”McGinty” the Skeleton Jig Dancer
”McGinty” the Skeleton Jig Dancer - Beautiful Paint Decorated Tin Top. Made by Ives, Blakeslee & Company. Bridgeport, Ct. - Late 1880's - 10 1/2” Tall. Why did the Ives Company associate this dancing skeleton with the name McGinty? Most probably, it was meant as a negative racial epithet against the Irish, who, as recent immigrants to the United States had to endure great hardships while assimilating into the fabric of American Society. Condition: Near Mint Condition. Works well.
