Horse Pulling Marching Figure - Made by the Merriam Mfg. Company. Durham, Ct. - Circa 1880 - 14 1/2” Long. Many collectors refer to this toy as the ”Suffragette” bell toy. It certainly depicts a figure in a marching position that's ringing the bell of freedom, but we can't be certain that this is meant as a representation of a bona fide suffrage movement worker. Nonetheless, it's a particularly fascinating early period bell ringer that combines tin and cast iron elements. And, of course, a brass bell as well. At this time, we know of only 5 examples of this beautiful toy. Condition: Pristine Condition.
