Bidspirit auction | Drummer Boy Bell Toy

Drummer Boy Bell Toy - Made by the Gong Bell Company. East Hampton, Ct. - Circa 1895. From the Hegarty Collection. ”Drummer Boy” is arguably the prettiest and most significant bell toy ever created. Its palette is truly remarkable for its harmonious blending of so many diverse colors. Front and center, we find the drummer boy. He stands in what can best be described as an elaborate parade float. Both of his arms are rigged to strike the bell with considerable vigor. At the front of the float is a majestic two tone spread-winged eagle holding a gold ring in its talons. Behind the eagle and directly in front of the drummer's boots is a highly developed image of a pink rose. This magnificent toy is in spectacular all original condition. It was one of Gertrude Hegarty's most loved and prized possessions. Condition: Near Mint Condition. Tiny hairline crack in cage.
