Bidspirit auction | Rare Cast Iron Candy Scale

Rare Cast Iron Candy Scale - Made by the Ives, Blakeslee Company. Bridgeport, Connecticut - Circa 1890. From the collection of Gertrude Hegarty. This magnificent plaything could easily qualify as one of the most novel and pretty toys produced during the late nineteenth century. A young girl sits at the end of the seesaw with a large apron stretched open in her arms. Her brother (or her sweetheart) daringly straddles the seesaw's fulcrum. Opposite the girl is the original basket in which you can weigh out penny candies. This is a breathtakingly near perfect specimen of this rare toy. Condition: Near Mint Condition.
