Wild Mule Jack Bell Toy - Made by the Gong Bell Company. East Hampton, Ct. - Circa 1890's. Jack is a shorthand term for ”jackass” or male donkey. Such powerful animals were used prolifically by both sides during the Civil War to pull heavy military apparatus. This image of a confederate soldier clinging for his life to the wild donkey's neck is truly comical and suitably derisive to the south. Condition: Pristine Plus Condition.
