Kicking Mule Bell Ringer - Made by the Gong Bell Company. East Hampton, Ct. - Circa 1895. During the 1870's, political cartoonist Thomas Nast helped to popularize the donkey as a symbol for the Democratic Party. However, its origins can be traced back to the election of Andrew Jackson in 1828, when his detractors called him a jackass. Amused by the label, he added an image of the donkey to his campaign poster. Condition: Mint Condition.
