Trick Elephant Bell Ringer - Made by the Gong Bell Company. East Hampton, Ct. - Circa 1895. The Republican Party was formed in 1854 and Abraham Lincoln became the nation's first Republican president in 1860. However, the image of the pachyderm as a symbol of the GOP first appeared in 1874, when Nast used the elephant in a political cartoon for Harper's Weekly. By 1880, the elephant was firmly entrenched as the symbol of the Republican Party. This toy has rich saturated color and is virtually mint condition. Condition: Pristine Condition.
