Hen and Chicks Bank
Rare & Desirable White Hen Version. Made by the J. & E. Stevens Company. Cromwell, Ct. - Pat'd. October 1, 1901. The Hen & Chicks Bank presents us with a wonderful vignette from life on the farm. On a small patch of grass, among a field full of yellow and blue flowers, mother hen has taken her babies out to learn the lay of the land. She has tucked them under her wings and she even sits atop a chick who pops out to surprise us when are coin is deposited into the bank. Ambitiously, the Stevens Company attempted to reproduce the sound and movement of the crowing hen, by internally fixing a ratchet cog to the operating lever. Typically, Stevens painted the hen in a shade of light brown and they favored a sort of metallic treatment for the base. Vividly colored specimens of the Hen and Chicks Bank with white hen are very scarce and collectors view it as an enviable variant.
Condition: Pristine with Original Box.
