Mechanical bank enthusiasts have long held a special fascination for a small group of banks inspired by military events from the Civil War. The ”Hold the Fort” bank appears to reference the battle waged at Fort Sumter near Charleston, South Carolina on April 12, 1861. Confederate artillery fired upon the garrison, and the Union Army was forced to flee when the supply line to the fort was cut off. The vivid patriotic color of this toy bank, combined with the exceptional quality of this particular example, make it a genuine showstopper. Condition: Near Mint Condition.
