Rare Four Man Articulated Scull - Cast Iron Toy
Made by the U. S Hardware Company. New Haven, Ct. - Circa 1898 - 9" Long. Opening for business in 1895, the U. S. Hardware Company was a late entrant to the field of cast iron toy production. However, they struck commercial "gold" with their invention of the articulated scull. It was so popular a plaything with children that they ultimately produced it in three different sizes; nine inches, fourteen inches and 19 1/2 inches long. They also offered it with two different sets of rowers. There are naval rowers (sailors) and there are collegiate rowers (dressed in white jerseys). This is a truly superb example of the toy.
