Rare Lion Hose Reel - American Tin Toy
Possibly Merriam Mfg. Company or the George Brown Company. Connecticut - Ca.1875 - 10 1/2" Long. From the Haradin Family Collection. This splendid American tin hose reel toy turned up at a small auction in Rhode Island some thirty years ago. At that time, it was a fresh find directly out of a house. Being that early American tin fire pieces are so rare, this constituted a significant acquisition for the Haradin family. Stylistically, the toy seems to have been produced either by the Merriam Company or the George Brown Company. It's difficult to make a definite attribution, one way or the other. Regardless, it's an unbelievably rare toy in great condition.
Condition: Pristine Condition with Great Patina.
