Rare King Kong Cast Iron Doorstop - Unknown American Manufacturer. Circa 1933 - 9” Tall x 6 1/2” Wide. Merriam Cooper and Edgar Wallace's King Kong fantasy horror monster film was commercially released in April 1933. Immediately, it became a massive success, returning in ticket sales nearly ten times its production costs. Here, we find the gargantuan ape in his upright position and he is walking and surveying the landscape before him. However, in this instance, he is looking out over the parlor floor and not his exotic jungle habitat. At this time, we know of no other examples of this extraordinary door stop.
