Mountain Lion Dressed as a Pirate Spelter Bank - Germany - Early 1910's - 5” Long. During the early 20th century, in the Austrian Alps, a story ominously circulated that an unknown animal was killing and eating the livestock of farmers. This mysterious beast came to be called ”Farm Fright” by the locals. Over time, he became legendary. Song and verse were written about his marauding exploits. Here, we find him illustrated wearing the customary costume of an authentic Bavarian; feathered hat and lederhosen. Tucked into his belt are a pistol and knife. Among collectors, this piece represents one of the most sought after banks in the hobby.
