Bidspirit auction | Hebrew Classic: Sefer Rav Mordechai,

Hebrew Classic: Sefer Rav Mordechai, Riva Di Trento, 1559 - The fundamental work of the Mordechai, authored by Rabbeinu Mordechai Ben R. Hillel, one of the great sages of 13th century Germany. He was a disciple of Maharam MiRutenburg and Rabbeinu Peretz of Corbiel.  Sefer Mordechai has been recognized as a prominent Halachic work for centuries, and is often quoted in the Shulchan Aruch. Already in 1482, it was included as an appendix to the Talmud published in the Soncino edition. It was later published as an appendix to Rav Aflas (the Rif) in Constantinople in 1509, and then again in Venice in 1521. The present edition is the first independent edition, largely based off the Venice edition, albeit with many new additions and corrections.  Like most copies, this copy does not include the ”Simanei Mordechai” which was printed with a separate title page.  In moderate condition. Some stains, tears and worming; sometimes with loss of text, replaced in facsimile.  Ancient ownership inscriptions seen on title page. Also seen is an illustration of two hands gesturing like Kohanim, along with a bird. Perhaps this might be in reference to the famed Rappaport family of Italy, who used a coat of arms depicting birds and the hands of Kohanim (as seen in Sefer Mincha Belulah, Verona 1591).  150, 154-192 pp.
