Handwritten Manuscript Responsa of R. Yaakov of Tzoizmir - Author of Beis Yaakov. Possibly Only Known Example - A page of handwritten responsa regarding a Chassan who borrowed a ring from another woman, without her husbands knowledge, is this considered a legitimate Kiddushin. This very question is discussed in Teshuvos Beis Yaakov (Dyhernfurth 1696, Siman 56), authored by R. Yaakov of Tzoizmir, one of the leading Acharonim. His responsa are quoted by the greatest of giants, such as the Chacham Tzvi and R. Akiva Eiger. We should note that to the best of our knowledge, there is no known example of his autograph, so we cannot unequivocally state that this is indeed his handwriting. However, considering that this query is discussed only in Sefer Beis Yaakov and no place else, it is reasonable to assume that this is indeed an original draft version of his response. Moreover, as there are textual differences between the printed version and this present manuscript, it is evident that it is not merely a transcription copied by a scribe, but rather the author himself, who had firsthand knowledge of this query. As such, the responsa here in manuscript is structured differently than in the printed version.  Based on the above, it is reasonable to assume that this is a rare surviving exemplar of the Beis Yaakov’s manuscript responsa, perhaps the only one extant.
