Sefer Menoras Hamaor with Nefesh Yehudah Commentary, Slavita 1829 - Sefer Menoras Hamaor, printed by R. Shmuel Avraham Shapiro, Slavuta 1829, with the approbations of R. Chaim Rappaport of Ostroh, R. Efraim Dayan of Sudilkov, and the Dayanim of Ostroh. Menoras Hamaor was written by R. Yitzchak Abuhav, and was first printed in Constantinople in 1514. Ever since, it has been extremely popular. It is said to have been favored by the Gaon of Vilna, and that the Chasam Sofer even conducted a private study session together with his daughters, teaching them Menoras Hamaor. Printed with the Nefesh Yehudah commentary, the preeminent commentary to this work. Authored by R. Moshe of Frankfurt, it was first printed in Amsterdam 1701 and has been included in virtually all editions ever since. Interestingly, the Chasam Sofer was his great-nephew (through his father R. Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, who's grandmother was the daughter of the Maharshaishach. The Maharshaishach was the brother-in-law of R. Moshe Frankfurter. Accordingly, the Chasam Sofer's great-grandmother was his niece) and quotes him by name in his works.
