Bidspirit auction | Sefer Sha’arei Durah – First

Sefer Sha’arei Durah – First Edition With Maharshal’s Commentary, Lublin 1599 - Sefer Sha’arei Durah, the classic Halachic work on Issur V’Hetter, authored by R. Yitzchak of Durah. First edition with the commentary of the Maharshal, entitled ‘Ateres Shlomo’. The very same year, another version of the commentary — presumably from a different manuscript, was printed concurrently in Basel by R. Eliyahu Luantz of Frankfurt, one of the disciples of the Maharshal. Although there are some differences between the two editions, both are known as the first edition featuring the commentary of the Maharshal.  Short marginal glosses from the period of the printing are seen on some pages. A partly trimmed signature from the period of the printing is seen on title page. It appears to be signed by one of the members of the Rabbinic Katzenelbogen family.  Like most copies, this copy does not include the [7] additional leaves of “Shechitos and Bedikos”, which were included as addendum to some copies only. As such, the work of “Shaarei Durah” is technically complete.  In overall good condition. Margins slightly trimmed, sometimes affecting page headers. Bound in an old, worn binding.  [1], 57 pp.  Page size: 27.5cm
