Hebrew Classic: Seder Hadoros, Karlsruhe 1769. First Edition. - First edition of the fundamental book Seder Hadoros, which was printed in Karlsruhe, 1769. Authored by R. Yechiel Halperin of Minsk (1660-1786?).  This work is divided into three parts, as follows: Yemos Olam  - a history from the Creation down to his own time. The author always endeavors to give, by means of calculation, the dates of Biblical personages. He bases his work on Sefer Yuchasin (R. Avraham Zacuto), Shalsheles HaḲabbalah, and on Sefer Tzemach David (R. David Ganz, a disciple of the Rema). It seems that this first part was written when the author was still young, for the last event which he registered was one occurring in 1697. Seder HaTanna'im V'Ha-amora'im - contains lists of the Tannaim and Amoraim in alphabetical order with their dates. The third part is a kind of catalogue containing first the names of all the authors, then those of their works, both arranged in alphabetical order. Heilprin based this part on the Sifsei Yeshenim of R. Shabsai Bass, but added a great number of other titles. Ever since its publication, it has been recognized as one of the most important works on Jewish chronology. In the last century however, some of the tales recorded in this work have been met with a great deal of criticism, namely from the Chofetz Chaim and Chazon Ish.  In good condition, bound in original binding; worn and partly damaged. Previous ownership marks on title and on verso of final leaf.  [13], 180 pp.
