Sefer Hayashar – A Midrashic and Aggadic Work on The Torah, Zhitomir 1849 - Sefer Hayashar, a collection of Midrashim and Aggadoth from the time of creation, arranged according to the Chamisha Chumshei Torah and parts of Nevi’im. Zhitomir 1849, printed at the press of the Shapiro Brothers, R. Chanina Lipa, Aryeh Leib and Yehoshua Heschel. It should be noted that this work was printed in the early years of the Zhitomir press, when the three brothers worked together. A short time after however, Aryeh Leib Shapiro broke away and opened a competing press in Zhitomir.  A very rare and charming Zhitomir edition, presumably one of only a handful of extant copies. No copy exists in the National Library of Israel. In fair condition, with light stains and signs of wear. Title page detached, with light stains. Bound in an old binding, worn and partly damaged. Open tears seen on pp. 45 and 57, affecting text but without loss.  Page size: 15.5cm 137 (274) pp.
