Sefer Ha’Aruch – Bomberg Edition, Venice 1531

Sefer Ha’Aruch, printed by Daniel Bomberg in Venice, 1531. Sefer Ha’Aruch was authored by Rabbeinu Nosson b. Yechiel of Rome, who was one of the Rishonim. It serves as a dictionary for all words found in the Talmud, and it is frequently quoted by Tosafos. It was first printed in Rome (circa 1480), then in Pesaro in 1517, and finally this edition in 1531.

This edition is extremely rare, and is regarded by many as the most accurate edition of Sefer Ha’aruch. It bears Bomberg’s simple, yet strikingly beautiful title page. Unlike other title pages issued by Bomberg, the text on this title is printed in beautiful large letters.

A marginal gloss is seen on pp. 25, probably from the early 17th century.

In overall good condition, with light stains to some leaves. Title page partly restored with no loss of text. Some are leaves shorter in size, presumably supplied from another copy.

Page size: 23cm
