Rare: Chamisha Chumshei Torah with Targum, Venice 1567. Printed Specially for The Use of Shnayim Mikrah - An exceptionally rare Chumash, which was printed specially to recite Shnayim Mikrah V’echad Targum, as stated on the title page: “Since we have seen the obligation and great reward for one who recites Shnayim Mikrah V’echad Targum, we’ve made it our goal to print a Chumash with Targum…”.  Each page of the Torah features the Targum Onkelos opposite the page. Printed by Zuan De Gara press with Bomberg typeset, Venice 1567. Complete with the five books of the Torah, Chomesh Megillos and Haftorahs read throughout the year. The final [2] leaves contain appendices to the Haftorahs read according to the Ashkenzic and Sephardic rites.  Targum Onkelos With Ta’amim In this Chumash, the Targum is printed with Ta’amim (cantillation points). According to the Arizal and Kabbalah however, it is preferable not to recite Targum with Ta’amim for Kabbalsitic reasons (See for example: Machazik Bracha by the Chida in the name of R. Chaim Vital, Siman 285:7; Kaf HaChaim 132:6. See also Yechave Da’at by R. Ovadiah Yosef, Vol. II Siman 37). As such, virtually all Chumashim printed after the time of the Arizal until today, were printed without Ta’amim.  This edition is exceptionally scarce. To the best of our knowledge, a complete copy was never offered for sale at auction. Likewise, no copy exists in The National Library of Israel.   In very good condition. A light stain is seen on title page and first two leaves. Bound in a magnificent leather binding with gilt accents. Housed in a matching slipcase.  Page size: 15cm.  [1], 399, 57, [3].
