Seder Tikkun Leil Shavuos – Shmuel Avraham Shapiro Press, Slavita, 1827. A Variant Copy Printed on Blue Paper

A beautiful, complete copy of the Tikkun Leil Shavuos, printed by Shmuel Avraham Shapiro in Slavita in 1827. Tikkun Leil Shavuos comprises various sections of the Torah, Nach, Gemarah and other sources, and is recited by many on the night of Shavuos.

A variant copy, printed with large letters throughout pages 104-157, unlike most copies which were issued this same year with small letters throughout these pages.

This 1827 edition printed by Shmuel Avraham Shapiro features many improvements over the previous 1823 edition printed by his father, as stated on the title page: “The Taryag Mitzvos have been proofread and corrected based on an intense examination of the Mitzvos as they appear in Sefer HaMitzvos according to the Rambam and Sefer Mitzvos Hashem. By doing so, we were not only able to correct many mistakes which made the text incomprehensible, but also to add many Mitzvos which were missing until now”. Please refer to the Hebrew description for an exact quote of the text.

In light of this, this edition is the most important edition printed in Slavita, even more so than the previous editions that were issued by R. Moshe Shapiro.

Slavuta imprints have long been favored by Chassidim and their Rebbes, and remain in high demand till today. They are often known to bring blessing into one’s household as they were printed with utmost Holiness and purity. In addition, they are well-known for their quality, black letterpress font - an uncommon printing feat in the early 19th century. During their prime, the Shapiro family press was cherished and respected by all, and was undoubtedly one of the leading Jewish printing presses throughout the Russian Empire.

In very good condition, printed on blueish-greenish paper. Title in red and black ink. A minor restoration is seen in upper corner of title page, with no loss of text. Bound in a magnificent new leather binding with gilt decoration.
