Sefer Shnei Luchos HaBris, Amsterdam 1698. The “Shelah Nachas” Edition. Copy of the Foa Family of Italy – A Magnificent Copy - Sefer Shnei Luchos HaBris, published in Amsterdam in 1698. Written by R. Yeshaya HaLevi Horowitz of Frankfurt. He is commonly known as the “Shelah HaKadosh”, an acronym of this classic magnum opus, Shnei Luchos HaBris. It was originally written as his will and final testament to his children and descendants, but has become widespread ever since its publication.  The Sanctity and Segulah of Sefer Shelah This 1698 Amsterdam edition is highly sought after due to its beautiful and pleasing layout. In addition, it was printed in the year “Nachas” - 1698, the very year in which R. Yisroel Ba’al Shem Tov was born. This observation was made by none other than R. Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the third Lubavitcher Rebbe, and frequently quoted by his grandson, Rebbe Raayatz of Lubavitch. In a letter, he elaborates how the Ba'al Shem Tov would frequently speak about this phenomenon, and the fact he was born in the very same year as this printing is no coincidence. The Raayatz also makes note of the sheer beauty of this edition, attributing this to the Ba'al Shem Tov's birth in 1698 (See: Likutei Diburim, 1933-35),    Please refer to the Hebrew description for additional comments from the Chida, who showers heaps of praise on this work. This edition features a beautiful, striking copper engraved title page depicting Moses and Aaron, executed by the convert Avraham bar Yaakov. Also bound with Hakdamas Sefer Vavei HaAmudim, with a separate title page. This copy belonged to the famed Foa family of Italy, and it contains additional pages in manuscript from the 18th century written by Yitzchak Uriah Foa, as well as a riveting documentation of a miracle which occurred during the French Revolution in 1799. Also includes other writings, including an explanation on the Torah which he heard from “a certain Torah scholar from Ashkenaz”.  A magnificent copy, printed on high-quality paper. All edges gilt.
