Sefer Pri Chadash – Yoreh De’ah, Amsterdam 1692. First Edition. Personal Copy of R. Avraham Katzenelenbogen of Brisk - Sefer Pri Chadash – The Classic work on Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De’ah, Amsterdam 1692. First Edition. Personal Copy of R. Avraham Katzenelenbogen, who served as the Rav of Brisk from 1760 until his death in about 1804. Before serving as the Rav of Brisk, he served as the Rav of Slutsk, starting in the year 1752. R. Avraham was recognized as one of the leading Torah scholars of his generation. He was the grandson of R. Yechezkel Katzenelenbogen – Author of Kneses Yechezkel. He gave his approbation to the famous work ‘Seder Hadoros’, where he is mentioned amongst the Geonei Raabbonei Lita. Likewise, he was involved in the dispute between R. Yonasan Eibeshutz and R. Yaakov Emden, and ultimately sided with R. Yonasan Eibeshutz. A letter he sent siding with R. Yonasan was published in his work “Luchos Eidus”. Likewise, R. Avraham was a fierce opponent to the Chasidic movement, and maintained a close relationship with the Vilna Gaon. Contains many inscriptions attesting that work belonged to R. Avraham, including two inscriptions from his son R. David Katzenelenbogen, who attests that this is his father’s copy. Please refer to the Hebrew description for an exact quote of the text.  In moderate condition. The title page and first 3 pages are torn with old repairs due to heavy use. These repairs were already in place when R. Avraham used the Sefer, as the inscriptions are written in these areas. It is not unexpected for Sefer Pri Chadash to be so well worn like this copy, as it served as a cornerstone for Rabbonim ever since its publication, and was held in high regard especially by Rabbonim of Lithuania.
