Rare: Olas Shabbos – A Special Siddur with Tefillos and Zemiros for Shabbos, Amsterdam 1750

An extremely rare Siddur measuring only 12cm, printed in Amsterdam in 1750. This Siddur was printed especially for use on Shabbos, and includes all prayers starting from Mincha on Erev Shabbos, as well as Zemiros for Friday night and Shabbos day, arranged according to the Arizal. Also includes Tehillim recited on Shabbos, Pirkei Avos, Yotzros and Zemiros for Motzaei Shabbos. At the end of the volume are various additions to be recited during the week, such as Tachanun. This way, the Siddur can also be used for weekdays if needed. On pp. 223 is a Mizmor in the shape of a Menorah, which was printed within a Menorah.

The final 4 leaves contain an essay regarding the essence of the soul (“Derush al HaNeshama”), which was originally printed in Sefer Lechem Yehuda.

An exceptionally scarce miniature volume. To the best of our knowledge, this work has been for sale at auction only once in the last 30 years. It is also not found in most library collections, and of all libraries throughout the world, the National Library of Israel is the only public library who holds a copy. Also not found in the Gross Collection - Tel Aviv, which although held hundreds of Amsterdam editions, this edition is not found there.

In overall good condition. Many pages with signs of wear due to age and heavy use. Pages trimmed on a slant; heavily trimmed margins, sometimes shaving the letters with loss. We estimate that this is how the book was originally trimmed when printed in 1750, hence all other known copies appear this way: trimmed on a slant with very tight margins. The copy at NLI - as well as the copy offered for sale over 30 years ago, both have some text missing on the margins, due to their margins being heavily trimmed.

Page size: Approx. 12cm.
