A Handwritten Postcard from R. Shimon Sofer of Erlau, Author of Hisorerus Teshuvah - A handwritten postcard by R. Shimon Sofer, Rabbi of Erlau and son of R. Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer – The Kesav Sofer. Written to Rabbi Dr. Asher (Arthur) Kohn of Basel, Switzerland, who was the very first Rabbi of the Jewish community of Basel. In it, R. Shimon Sofer requests that he disseminate his work 'Mussarei Harambam' amongst the Jewish community of Basel. R. Shimon Sofer (1850-1944), Rabbi of Eger (Erlau) Hungary, author of Hisorerus Teshuvah and other works. He was one of ten children of the Kesav Sofer, and grandson of the Chasam Sofer of Pressburg. He perished in Auschwitz in 1944 at the age of 94 together with his entire community. Rabbi Asher Michael Kohn (1862-1926), a disciple of R. Ezriel Hildsheimer of Berlin. From 1885 until the rest of his life, he was the first Orthodox rabbi of the Jewish community of Basel, Switzerland, and the first full-time rabbi to be confirmed in office several times. Until then, the rabbinate had been exercised by the rabbis of Hégenheim. Cohn additionally worked in many other Swiss communities and was renowned within the Orthodox community. In good condition.
