A Handwritten Autograph Responsum by R. Yosef Eliyahu Henkin, Brooklyn 1952. - A Handwritten Autograph Responsum by R. Yosef Eliyahu Henkin, dated the 4th night of Chanuka 5713 (1952). Written to Rabbi Dov Chalodovsky, regarding the Kashrus of wine. R. Henkin writes that if it is indeed tightly sealed it does not become Yayin Nesech, although it is preferable not to buy wine that was touched, even if sealed. R. Yosef Eliyahu Henkin (1881-1973), a preeminent Torah scholar widely recognized as one of the greatest Poskim in America. In his youth, he studied under R. Isser Zalman Meltzer in Slutsk, and received Semicha from him, as well as from R. Boruch Ber Leibowitz and the Ridvaz. In 1922 after serving as Rabbi of several towns throughout Russia, he emigrated to America. In 1925 he became the director of Ezras Torah, which provided assistance to scholars. He served in that capacity until his death, and held the position with great humility. Written on official stationery. In good condition, with fold marks.   21.5cm
