Teshuvos D’var Shmuel - With Ban Against Nathan HaAzati and Shabbetai Zevi, Venice 1702. First Edition.

Teshuvos D’var Shmuel was authored by R. Shmuel Abuhav (1610-1694), and is considered one of the most important responsa works. First (and perhaps only) edition, brought to print after his death by his son R. Yaakov Abuhav, with a long and detailed preface about his father and his life.

R. Abuhav served as the Rabbi and judge of Venice, and was recognized as one of the greatest sages of Italy. He was particularly known for his fight against the messianic cult of Shabbetai Zevi and his disciple Nathan of Gaza (Nathan HaAzati). Included in this work is the ban issued by him together with R. Yaakov Sasportas, another important Rabbi who led the fight against the Sabbatian movement.

An important and rare work. One of the only Hebrew books to discuss the Messianic cult of Shabbetai Zevi.

In very good condition, trimmed margins painted red; printed on high-quality paper.
