A Rare Miniature: Sefer Shulchan Hatahor, Amsterdam 1770

A rare miniature, Sefer Shulchan Hatahor, measuring only 9cm! This work was written by R. David Pardo, and is an abridged version of all relevant laws of Shulchan Aruch pertaining to day-to-day Jewish life. This edition includes the rulings of the Rema, intended for Ashkenazic Jews. Printed with the approbation of R. Shaul of Amsterdam, who praises this work immensely. At the end of the work is the Tefillas Haderech prayer, since this was intended for use especially when traveling. Hence the small miniature size.

The title page features a woodcut architectural border, with a deer at its head. At the bottom, men are depicted eating at a table. Both these devices represent this work: The deer represents R. Zvi Hirsch who brought this edition to print, and the table represents its name, Shulchan Hatahor.

In good condition, with a small repair on verso of title page.

Page size: Approx. 9cm.
