Handwritten Letter by R. Shmuel Orenstein of Berimlah – On Behalf of The Trisker Rebbe, 1873

A scarce, handwritten letter from R. Shmuel Orenstein, Rabbi of Berimlah, a small town in the Volyn region. He was one of the leading Rabbis in that region, as was a staunch follower of the first Trisker Rebbe, R. Avraham of Trisk (1806-1889), who was the son of R. Mordechai of Chernobyl. R. Shmuel corresponded with many Torah leaders of his time, including R. Shlomo Kluger, who mentions him in Sefer Kinas Sofrim (pp. 49).

In this letter, written to R. Meir Eliyah who was the Rabbi of Kopyl, R. Shmuel addresses the opinion of the Trisker Rebbe regarding a local dispute. Seemingly, this was in regard to dispute which took place between two Trisker Chassidim in the town of Kopyl, and R. Shmuel was asked to intervene, on behalf of the Trisker Rebbe.

A very scarce and unique letter.

Approx. 10 lines handwritten by R. Shmuel Orenstein. Dated 8 Menachem Av 5633 (1873). Written during the lifetime of the Trisker Rebbe. With additional Halachic content, written by another scholarly individual.

[1] folded sheet, 15.5cm.
