A Gorgeous Set of Machzorim For The Entire Year – In Original Bindings, Amsterdam 1793 - A beautiful set of Machzorim printed in Amsterdam in 1793. Printed according to the Ashkenanzic rite, with Kavanas HaPaytan commentary. Kavanas HaPaytan is perhaps one of the most famous elucidations on the Piyutim, and was incorporated into hundreds editions of the Machzor.   A gorgeous set in its original Dutch binding, with gilt decoration. All edges gilt. The cover of each volume bears the name “‘Issac Levy In Paris”, who was perhaps a member of the notable Levy family of France, many of whom served as Rabbis throughout France during the mid-19th century.  All volumes are complete with an additional copper engraved illustrated title page, which are lacking in many copies. These title pages bear the Proops family name and were used in several editions.  Aside from the original bindings, this Amsterdam edition is indeed a beautiful set as it is printed on thick, high quality white paper, and the type is in a clear, impressive font. In comparison with other Machzorim printed during the era, this Machzor is unparalleled in its quality and beauty, which can be appreciated till today. Likewise, all prayers and supplications are printed in their entirety and in their correct place, another uncommon phenomenon for Machzorim from this period.  This set was originally issued in 9 volumes. Present in this lot are 7 volumes out of 9.  Volume 1: Machzor for Rosh Hashanah - Day 1, 76 pp.  Volume 2: Machzor for Rosh Hashanah - Day 2, 67 pp. Volume 3: Machzor for Yom Kippur - Kol Nidrei, Maariv and Shacharis. 116 pp.  Volume 4: Machzor for Yom Kippur - Mussaf, Mincha and Neilah, 108 pp. Volume 5: Machzor for Sukkos, 84 pp.  Volume 6: Machzor for Second Days of Pesach, 82 pp.  Volume 7: Machzor for Shavuos, 93 pp.  Each volume bound in original bindings with gilt decoration. Some bindings rubbed and scuffed due to use. All edges are beautifully gilded. 18cm.
