Sefer Ma’aneh Lashon, Zhitomir 1848

Sefer Ma’aneh Lashon, a compilation of Techinos and prayers to be said at the cemetery. Printed by the famed Shapiro Brothers in 1848, just several years after their printing press opened in Zhitomir.

Contains prayers to be said when visiting the cemetery during different occasions throughout the year, including Tefillos for Yahrtzeit, Parnassah, as well as a special Tefilah for Hatzlacha said on Erev Rosh Chodesh. In this edition, special Tefillos to be said at the cemetery on Erev Rosh Hashanah and Erev Yom Kippur were also added.

Ma’aneh Lashon also contains Tefillos to be said at the gravesites of Gedolim and Tzadikim. Ma’aneh Lashon was particularly used amongst Chassidim, and especially Chabad. In fact, the Miteler Rebbe R. Dov Ber of Lubavtich instructed that it be said at the Kever of his father, The Alter Rebbe. Following the passing of the Rebbe Rayatz in 1950, the Lubavitcher Rebbe R. Menachem Mendel Schneerson instructed that this custom be followed at his father-in-laws Kever as well, which is practiced amongst Chabad Chassidim till this day.

This Zhitomir edition is uncommon, and is rarely seen at auction.

In fair condition. Occasional worming seen on several leaves. Small open tears seen on final 2 leaves, affecting some text.
